"I have
$12,500.00 in it, consider it 75% restored."
Chevy Sport
1/2 Ton Pickup. It has been in the same family
since new. I purchased it from a cousin on
April 1, 1974.
"This truck has
been used on my farm, and as one of my means of
transportation to and from recording sessions in the
70's and 80's. It has never been wrecked. It
came with a 283 V-8. At 74,349 miles, on the
truck, I replaced the 283 engine with a 327/30
Over, which had 15,000 miles on it. It was
built by my son, Terry, who was learning to
build engines from a gentleman who built some of
the original NASCAR engines. This engine
was the cooperative effort of both. The truck,
now, has 172,344 original miles on it, 97,995 of
which is on the "327" engine. It uses no oil.
The rear-end is still the 283, which can be
changed over.
I began
restoration on it in 1998, by a friend of mine
who does this as a living and a hobby. He,
also, was involved in the painting end of NASCAR
racers. It is 75%, I would say, at this point.
Original seat covers, including a tear, and
dash. Nothing fancy has been done to it.
The photos show
the Original, Sport hub-caps, lined up along
side the truck. I do not carry them on the
truck for fear of their being stolen. I do have
extra hubs. I have my Original Registration
Paper and the Original, Metal ID and GM number.
This grand
little truck has helped to move and/or haul
for all the Jordanaires, at one time or other,
in the 70's. Don Gibson is the only Celebrity,
whom I can remember, who has ridden in it,
outside the Jordanaires; and Chuck Howard, top
song writer and performer.
I have all the
receipts and photos of restoration; at this
point, I have, approximately, $12,500.00 in it."
